Matt was born and raised in Walterboro, South Carolina, where he attended high school at Colleton Prep Academy. After high school Matt attended The Citadel, where he earned a degree in criminal justice in 2017. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he continued his studies at Charleston School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 2020.
Upon completing law school Matt moved to Chester, SC and served as a law clerk for Judge Brian M. Gibbons, Circuit Court Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. During his clerkship, Matt gained an abundance of hands-on experience and invaluable knowledge in substantive and procedural legal matters within both the civil and criminal context.
After completing his clerkship, Matt moved back home to practice law alongside his father at Murdaugh Law Group. Matt and his wife Mikael are both Colleton County natives where they reside today. When not working, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and two dogs. He is a sports fan and likes watching and cheering for his favorite teams, the Citadel Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Matt is also an avid outdoorsman and spends much of his free time hunting and fishing.
Matt’s practice is primarly focused on personal injury claims, including, car crashes, trucking accidents, wrongful death claims, slip and falls, dog bites and animal attacks, and other types of injury claims. Although the majority of Matt’s cases are personal injury related. He has litigated a wide variety of other claims, which include breach of contract, mechanic’s lien, and construction defect.
